Wednesday Nights at Watts Street Baptist Church

Join us for our weekly Wednesday Night Suppers and Ministries! We gather for supper beginning at 5:30. Adults and youth: $6. Children 2 years - 2nd grade: $2. 3rd - 5th grades: $3. Family cap: $20. At 6:30, following the community time of prayers, celebrations, and announcements, the children go to chioirs, and the youth to Youth Service Learning. • February 3: Breast Cancer 101. The leaders for this informal conversation are Billy Irvin, a professor and researcher in Hematology and Oncology at UNC, and Suzanne Irvin, clinical social worker at Duke Raleigh Cancer Center. Come with your questions!
• February 10: Conversation about WS and the Yates Baptist Association. Members of the Church Council will receive and answer questions and hear the wisdom of the congregation regarding our relationship with the Association.
• February 17: Ash Wednesday Service, 6:30. No supper or programs. Childcare provided for preschoolers.

February 24: Pauli Murray Project, Paula Januzzi Godfrey presenting. Pauli grew up in Durham. As an attorney, activist, and Episcopal priest, she lived a life guided by passion for justice for all. The Pauli Murray Project, sponsored by the Duke Human Rights Center, will help Durham use its history to create a foundation for positive change.
• March 3: Learn about the Interfaith Hospitality Ministry with people who are homeless. Stuart Wells coordinates this mission group.
• March 10: Hear stories from our many years of involvement with Habitat of Durham. Steve Booth is our Habitat coordinator.
• March 17: Hear about the ministry provided through the WS AIDS Care Team. Greg Palmer has recently agreed to coordinate this ministry.
• March 24: Learn about Seniors Staying Put (SSP), a volunteer organization whose purpose is to assist seniors and others to continue living in their homes as long as possible. Gay Bonds, Orientation and Training Coordinator, and Dick Chorley, Steering Committee Chair, tell about SSP’s work in eight neighborhoods around WSBC.
• March 31: During Holy Week we cancel Wednesday night supper and ministries in order to focus on the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services, both at 7:30 p.m.
- April 7: Please gather with us to write notes of encouragement to our college and grad students as they prepare for exams.
- April 14 and 21: Discover all sorts of tips from some of WS's most experienced photographers! Telling the WS story includes lots of photographs. Attend to learn for yourself, or to help us better tell the WS story!
- April 28: No programming for adults on this night as we pack for the All Ages Beach Retreat.
- May 5 and 12: Susan Brooks, Diana Jackson and Lisa Rhoades lead Bazaar Crafts, to help us all recognize how we can become a part of the great and long-standing fall bazaar event at Watts Street.
- May 19: We enjoy the end of the year Children's Choir Celebration!
- May 26: Stella cooks for us one more time! No Wednesday night programming.
During the summer, we enjoy Wednesday night suppers on the third Wednesdays of each month: June 16, July 21, and August 18. Fall Wednesday night suppers and ministries resume on Wednesday, September 8.
Please make supper reservations in the Friendship Register, or with the Church Office by Monday morning.
